I always look forward to holidays and celebrations because it is the perfect opportunity to combine all my creative hobbies. It gives me the excuse to get dressed up and make cute treats, plus add in a few crafts for good measure.
National Donut Day is the first Friday of June every year so I wanted to do a DIY count down to donut day.
The first DIY project I wanted to share was how to make your own Mickey Donut cards. These cards would be perfect to spread a little sweetness to your friends and loved ones or invite them to your own little donut party!
I selected different scrap book papers from my collection with different textures and shades of pink, brown, tan and teal. You can use any color theme that you like, but brown and tan make the most realistic donut base colors.

I like to make my cards 5x7, as it gives more space for creating a cute art on the front of the card and more room for writing a message on the inside of the card. You can buy blank white cards with envelopes at the craft store or you can cut them out of white card stock and fold your own.
I started by laying out what papers I wanted to use together as the background on my cards. I cut out the background papers 1/2 inch smaller than the dimensions of my card. So for my 5x7 cards, I cut out papers that were 4.5 x 6.5. this gave me a 1/4 inch boarder of white around the edges of my cards. When you have settled on layouts, glue them together on your card.
I played with potential layouts for the donuts on my cards. I wanted to make some cards with mini donuts and some with large donuts.
To make the donuts, I used various circular objects to trace out the circles. To get the icing shape, I traced the donut template on the back of my paper and freehanded the icing shape. I cut out using an Exacto knife or scissors. For my smallest donut shape which made up the ears on my mini donuts I cut out the center using a hand hole punch.
I laid out all of my different cards at once because I like to do all the gluing at the same time. Once you are happy with your donut placement, glue everything together. I left space on my cards to go in and add some cute donut themed quotes. I typed out my quotes in word printed them out and traced them onto my cards and then painted over the text.

Craft chaos in progress...I took up an entire king sized bed with this project.

Have fun! Play with fun colors and patterned paper. When my donut cards where all glued together I added sprinkles to them using tulip 3D fabric paint and acrylic paint.
I came up with some fun donut themed sayings to add to my cards. I printed on the text in word and used tracing paper to trace the words on to my cards and went over them with acrylic paint.

I had so much fun making these cards and I think they turned out really cute! I didn't want to stop making these cards so I ended up with a big collection of them. Each card I made is unique no two cards are exactly the same.
