My friend Kayla and I collaborated to create a magical live action Cinderella movie night in her backyard to celebrate her birthday. I was so excited when she chose the live action Cinderella movie because its pure magic to watch and definitely one of my favorites. Plus you can never go wrong with a Disney Princess themed movie night in my opinion.

A backyard movie night was the perfect way for us to celebrate her quarantine birthday and still make it special. We decided on the menu together and each made some of the food, it was so fun to bring it all together and watch the magic come to life in her backyard. I wish summer wasn't almost over so we could do more backyard Disney movie nights. All of the recipes and ideas we used for this outdoor movie night could also be used for an indoor movie night.

The Menu

Cinderella's Sugar Cookies- Meredith

Carriage Wheels: Cucumber & Turkey Tortilla Rolls - Kayla

Lavender's Blue Lemonade -Meredith

Cinderella's Pumpkin Patch: Celery & Oranges -Kayla

Mice Friends Cheese & Crackers- Kayla

Fairy Godmother's Pumpkin Cake Pops: Pumpkin Spice Flavored- Meredith

I loved creating fun themed labels for all snacks. It was so fun searching google until I found the perfect illustration to match the dish.

I went with a cornflower blue and lavender color palate for the party. I pulled both of these colors from Cinderella's magical iridescent blue ballgown.

When thinking about what makes the live action Cinderella unique from the classic animated version. I thought of the song Cinderella sings, Lavender Blue Dilly Dilly. I just had to make lavender lemonade inspired by the song. The lavender lemonade was a dull grayish color so I added a few drops of purple liquid food coloring, it ended up a bit brighter then I was going for but still looked and tasted lovely.

I have seen the ideas for these celery and orange pumpkins all over Pinterest. They are so cute and easy to make. The perfect edition for any Cinderella themed party.

These sugar cookies were inspired by Cinderella's magical dress transformation. I just knew I had to incorporate the butterflies into this party. It was so much fun to learn a new royal icing technique to make these butterflies. I pipped buttercream in the shape of roses, using an ombre of blue, lavender and white.

Kayla made the most delicious carriage wheels for her movie night. She mixed chopped chives into cream cheese, spread it on to tortillas and layered thinly sliced turkey and cucumbers on top. She rolled them up, stuck them with tooth picks and sliced them into the wheels.

Cheese and crackers are one of my favorite snacks and I think Cinderella's mice would agree with me. I love how Cinderella shares what little she has with her friends even when those friends are mice. Kayla put together some delicious flavored cheeses for us to snack on.

Its almost pumpkin season but I had such a hard time tracking down a can of pumpkin to make pumpkin spice flavored cake pops. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to create something pumpkin flavored for a Cinderella party. They tasted amazing and I cant wait to find more opportunities to make them this fall. The flower and vine details were made with royal icing.

I absolutely loved how everything came together. It truly was the most magical movie night!

If you put together your own Cinderella movie don't forget to tag me so I can see what you create.

Have a magical day!

Love,

Meredith Joy
