I have always thought it would be fun to watch all the Disney Princess movies in the order they came out, so one of my goals for this year was to host a themed Disney Princess dinner and movie night every month. This was actually my plan for last year but moving disrupted that plan since most of my things were in boxes for the first half of the year.

I planned the menu around German dishes since Snow White is a German fairytale. I also pulled inspiration for some of the dishes from Snow White.

For the table, I went with an Enchanted Forest theme. I used both red and white glittering roses accented with apples and candlelight. In the center of the table, I placed a gold wooden silhouette of Snow White and Prince Charming.

All of the decorations I used were repurposed from other events. The green grass table runner is from my Flower & Garden Festival themed Birthday. The Snow White themed decor pieces are from my wedding center pieces.

The Menu

Main Course

Snow White's Beef Stew

Sides

Käsespätzle

German Sausages

Crescent Rolls

Drink

Poison Apple Punch

Dessarts

Snow White's Wishing Well Pie

The Queen's Poison Apples

In the movie, Snow White makes stew for the Dwarves when they get home from the mines. I found a delicious recipe for German Goulash. It was very flavorful and filling. This stew on its own would make a hearty meal.

Spätzle is a type of small noodle or dumpling made with fresh eggs, typically serving as a side for meat dishes in Germany. I thought it would be fun to try my hand at making these noodles and they were actually super easy to make! I found an inexpensive spätzle maker on amazon, I would highly recommend getting one. It made the noodle making process so easy and I definitely want to make this recipe again, so it was a useful purchase.

I found a recipe for Käsespätzle which is cheesy German noodle casserole. I couldn't find Butterkäse cheese at my grocery store, so I substituted Fontina cheese. Käsespätzle was delicious on its own or served with German sausages.

I also made Poison Apple Punch. It was very simple and very delicious and I loved the deep red color. I made the punch using 64 oz of apple juice, 1 can of berry cranberry juice concentrate and 1 liter of sparkling soda.

For Christmas I got a Disney Princess Baking Cookbook. I have been excited to try out some of the recipes so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity.

In the movie, Snow White makes a gooseberry pie for grumpy so I knew I wanted to make a pie for my movie night. In the cookbook I found recipe for Snow White's Wishing Well Pie. It's a blueberry ginger pie, the ginger isn't very strong, but it does add a nice depth of flavor to the pie. I also made my own addition to the pie and added 2 tsp of lemon zest, the pie already has lemon juice in the filling, but I wanted to up the lemon flavor a little bit and I really loved the addition of the lemon zest.

You can't have a Snow White themed party without the iconic poison apple. I made the Queen's poison apples by melting white candy coating and turning it green with gel food coloring. The I used a piping bad to outline and fill the face on the apple. They turned out messier than I would have liked but they are still super cute.

I can't remember the last time I watched Snow White, so I was looking forward to seeing it again. The animation is really charming, and I love how each scene looks like a painting and there are so many cute moments with the dwarves and the woodland animals that I didn't remember.

I love going all out for my movie nights because they are the perfect opportunity to try new recipes. All of the recipes I used I would happily make again so I will be adding them to my cookbook.

Movie nights don't need to be overly complex. You can still have a fun movie night with just a few simple dishes. If you host a Snow White dinner or movie night, I would love to see what you come up with.

Love,

Meredith Joy
